WHAT IS MYOPIA?

Myopia, called near or short-sightedness, is a vision condition that causes objects at a distance to appear blurred. In contrast, close objects appear clear. Myopia occurs in children and adults and can go from parents to offspring. The daily tasks of an individual, especially children (frequent near work can cause myopia), could be one of the causes of myopia.

HOW CAN MYOPIA BE ADDRESSED?

Most people have asked their Optometrist this question; “are my glasses going to correct my vision “? This question is with the expectation that after wearing glasses for six months (for example), the glasses should be dropped and vision improved. This is incorrect, especially in myopia, because glasses do not perform an imaginary surgery on the eyes during the six months of wear.

Although there are few cases where an Optometrist will recommend the wear of glasses for a period, and then the person is asked to return to the clinic for follow-up and the glasses withdrawn, this is very rare. Glasses, contact lenses, and surgeries can correct myopia.
